Chapter 9

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where. I love you simply, without problems or pride; I love you in this way because I do not know any other way of loving but this, in which there is no I or you, so intimate that your hand upon my chest is my hand; so intimate that when I fall asleep your eyes close.

I dropped the book I had been reading on the bed. I was unsettled. I didn’t know what was wrong, I just felt as if things were going too good and something would happen to change all of that. The night I came home from Viper’s, Cas and I talked everything out. It was good. We seemed to be more in sync as a couple, at least I think that’s what we are. We talked about forever, but we really didn’t talk about any kind of firm relationship and maybe that’s what had me so unsettled.

I hated not knowing if we were just a thing until the Derek and Lance situation was taken care of or if we were more. I wanted it to be more. While I think Cas did as well, he hadn’t said so exactly. Yes, he’d told me he loved me and I believed him. Love didn’t always mean a serious commitment though, and I wanted everything with Cas. I wanted to be his wife. I wanted to carry his children. I wanted to be in his bed every night for the rest of my life. I just needed to know if that is what he wanted too.

Before I came here, I didn’t know anything about MC life but I had learned a lot since then. I knew giving a woman a property cut meant you were in a committed relationship. I could admit to myself that I was a little envious of Brenna. Slade had given her his cut.

I knew there were things they kept from their women and, truthfully, I was okay with that. I knew they had plans for Derek and Lance. I didn’t want to know what they were or how they would happen, I just hoped when all was said and done, neither would walk the face of this earth again.

I slipped on my shoes thinking a walk might clear my head. I made my way into the living room to let Audrey know where I was going. I smiled when I saw where she was. She was snuggled onto Boomer’s lap. They were talking quietly. He was running a hand up and down her left arm. The fingers of her left hand were entwined with his right ones. Her right hand was on his right forearm and she was softly stroking the skin under her hand.

Their love was an awesome thing to behold and it hurt like hell to see at the same time. She seemed to be slipping away a little more each day and it was killing me. I had grown to love this woman.
