Chapter 6

Karl

“You want another marshmallow, Gingersnap?”

I watched as Owen fussed over our omega, touched by how gentle he was being without even realizing it. My love was like that though, thoughtful without being aware of his own consideration. He had an image of himself as being an ignorant, unlovable jock. I knew better, of course. And I had faith that Zane would soon see this in our Owen as well.

“Dude. If I have another one, I’ll explode.”

“Right, because you’ve eaten SO much food tonight.”

“Owen, do you not realize that I don’t need as much food as you do? I’m literally half your size, man.”

“My size? You’re half the size of Jake’s latest pup!”

“Oh, shut up. Besides, you don’t seem to mind my size that much. Don’t think that I haven’t seen you checking me out all night.”

“What? I’m just sitting here, being nice, offering to roast you another marshmallow. And now you’re gonna accuse me of perving on you?”

“I didn’t say you were perving. I said you were checking me out. Those are two separate things.”

I listened to the entertaining discussion, content to let them find a way to get along. It was good that Zane was relaxing enough to tease Owen now. My heart warmed, watching my mates interact. I knew that they were both at ease with me, it was each other that they needed to be comfortable with now.

After they sat there bantering a little longer, I stood up and stretched. It was time to move things along, and I could smell Zane’s interest increasing now. Owen was always just this side of aroused, as was I.

“Would either of you care to go for a walk in the woods, or lay back and count stars? Or shall we retire for the evening?”

Zane looked confused, so Owen cleared it up.

“What the big guy is asking is if you want to take a romantic walk or do some cuddling under the stars. Or, do you want to just get naked and explore each other instead?”

I bit back a smile at Owen’s words.

“Umm, I mean, is it up to me?”

“Yeah, Gingersnap. Karl is the romantic one, not me, that’s why he gave you the choices. He knows better than to ask me. Who wants woods or stars if there’s sex on the menu, am I right?”

Zane blushed. “I w-w-wouldn’t know.”

“About the romantic shit or the sexy stuff?”

“Either?”

Owen gaped, and I just walked over and scooped Zane up in my arms. He was so light, I could carry him around all day and not break a sweat.

“What’s h-h-happening?”

“Come along, Owen. We are going for a walk. If our omega has not yet experienced romance, we are not proceeding to the next step just yet.”

“See, Gingersnap? Big guy is the romantic one,” Owen said as he kicked some sand over our fire while I waited. Once the fire was banked, he walked over and put his arm around my waist. “Falls?”

“That sounds like a good place to start,” I agreed.

“Umm, how far away are we going? Because, you really don’t have to carry me.
