Chapter seventeen

Kiira

When I woke in the morning, or at least what was the morning somewhere inside this universe, Tyler wasn’t beside me. Quickly dressing myself and finding my feet inside the ship, which seemed a lot harder than before. The image of the various planets ahead of me hadn’t seemed to change too much, but I could feel the speed of the ship below my feet. I clasped tightly onto the ladder, slowly lowering myself down to the main floor of the ship, to see Katie and Raz, sitting at the back. Their bodies looked stiff, and their eyes peeled wide in front of them, not even acknowledging my entrance. Tyler was once again the driver’s seat with Preston by his side.

“What’s going on?” I whispered to Raz as I took a seat on the lounge next to her.

“Tyler’s stressed. He wants to get us to the Darkside as quickly as possible. He thinks we may have lost a lot of time last night. The cruise control of the ship wasn’t set at the speed that he had hoped. He’s worried that there might be a small glitch in the mechanics of the ship.”

“Oh,” I said, realising that my voice was a little too loud. You could hear a pin drop, and the tension between the room was beginning to make me feel sick. Guilty. This trip had nothing to do with Tyler and I, but I had been nothing but selfish wasting his time last night. I was the one who had added to his stress.

“Is that all?” I said, leaning back to Raz as I kept my eyes on Tyler and Preston. I could only see the back of their heads, the two of them sitting so still, not moving a single inch.

Raz leaned in closer to me, finally turning towards me; one single look of her bright red eyes and I felt my stomach flip. “She came and saw all of us last night as well,” Raz whispered. “Tyler said that it wasn’t just her that came to visit the two of you, but Liam as well. She told us what she has planned, Kiira, what her and Liam have planned. What did Liam really come to you for? What did he really tell you? Is there something that you’re not telling us?”

“What? No, I told Tyler the truth of everything last night, why?” I said. My heart began racing at a thousand miles per hour and my strong albet body began to feel weaker, more than because I have never felt the speed of such a ship before. I flashed a glance back at Tyler, but all I could see was behind his head, as he sat still, eyes straight ahead in the captain’s seat. I had been nothing but honest about what happened. I had never been more honest and vulnerable in my life, and then last night, us together, we were so connected. Had he woken up this morning and regretted it all? I felt sick.
