Iknow my arse is about to be kicked, and quite frankly, I’m looking forward to it. I need to see Scarlet’s fire again after weeks of her hiding in her room. She hasn’t left it in days, and even then, it was a trip to the kitchen, which lasted all of two seconds while she grabbed a bottle of water, and then she scampered back to her room. Knocking harder than I meant to on her door, I wait until she opens it, her face an expression of irritation, but not anger.

“You,” she comments and crosses her arms while she stands in the doorway, blocking my entry.

“Talk to your dad?” I poke that bear and watch the fire in her eyes.

“You’re a complete dick. You had no right to ambush me with Rex, of all people,”

“Say that again,” I murmur, staring at her full, pouty lips.

Her eyes narrow. “Dick,” she purrs. “You are a complete dick.”

“Fuck, you have no idea how hard my cock is right now. It likes you calling me a dick. Do it again.”

“Fucking, cunting, asshole dick.”

I let out a feral groan and run my hand through my hair. “Would it help to say I’m sorry?”

“No.”

“How about this?” I produce the ring I took back from that Irene cow and hold it up in front of her.

Her dark eyes go to it immediately, and she licks her lips.

“You got it back.”

“Also got this,” I pull the sapphire necklace out of my pocket and hold it up.

Her eyes flicker to it briefly but go back to the ring. It tells me everything I need to know. I chuck the necklace down the hallway.

“Don’t need that one.”

She lets out a soft snort and leans forward to peer down the hallway to the priceless necklace on the floor a few meters away.

She straightens up again, fixing me with those eyes filled with promises that I wish to see fulfilled. “Don’t need that one either.”

“Ouch.”

She glares at me.

“I am sorry about ringing Rex. I knew he was in town, and I thought you needed to process fully what Teddy being your father meant. You were ignoring it, avoiding it and it wasn’t good for your soul, Scar.”

“Fuck you.”

“I deserve that, and more.”

She sighs. “No, you don’t. I did need it and I feel like a weight has been lifted. I still need to talk it through with my mom, but hearing Rex tell me how much they want me was what I needed to hear. He doesn’t bullshit.”

“And that’s why I rang him.” I’m a bit smug, and she can see it.

She rolls her eyes. “You know me soooo well, big boy.”

“Well, Jesus if I didn’t just nearly come in my pants.”

She giggles and looks back at the ring I’m still holding between us.
