Chapter 27

Blaze

Blaze had hacked into the security system at Turbo's apartment complex. He reassured himself that it was just for her protection, but he also knew there was something else at play. It wasn't until he watched the episode between Gunny and Turbo that he began his search. He had convinced himself not to dig in and to give her time to confide in him. That was, until he saw her face turn ghostly white and the tears falling from Gunny's eyes. There was a history there, and it appeared to be a very painful one. Blaze wondered about their connection, but decided to log out of his search, despite knowing he could learn the truth with just a few keystrokes. She would either confide in him or not when she was ready. It wasn’t his place to probe where he wasn’t wanted.

His thoughts were interrupted when Ethan called him into his office.

Ethan told the caller he was putting him on speaker so Blaze could join in on the conversation.

"Blaze, I have Deputy Director Russo from the CIA on the phone. I was just telling him about your discovery, but more importantly, about your recovery."

"Good job there, son. Tell me what you found."

"I found the hacker. Her handle is Turbo, but her real name is Julia Kennedy. She lives here in San Antonio, conveniently. She has custody of her brother, who's eight and in the second grade."

"Good. That's excellent work. Are you sure the files are safe?"

"Yes, sir. We have the files secured. It’s the addresses of your operatives. The names and states are redacted, which is probably why she posted them initially, instead of alluding to them."

"Very good. Ethan, what are you waiting for? Why haven't you brought her into custody?"

"We will have Ivy do it, since she's local. I just need to find her. She's not checked in for a while. Do you know where she is?"

"She hasn’t checked in with me since she came back from San Diego. I'm sure she’s in the area. She usually stays close to ECP headquarters when not on assignment," Russo answered.

Of course, neither Russo nor Ethan knew Ivy was in Laredo, arresting Russo's associate.

“Sir, I recommended that we not close the bidding yet. It would be easy to track the buyers and sellers if we kept the auction open. Are you okay with that?” Blaze asked Russo.

There was silence for a bit, until Russo agreed with the recommendation.

"If she uploads anything else, I want to know immediately," Russo commanded.

Ethan promised he would be the first to know. After they disconnected the call, Ethan looked over at Blaze, waiting for his thoughts. Only Blaze couldn't share his thoughts.

"Nothing? I've known you too long to think you aren't two steps ahead of us. So, spill it," Ethan stated.

Blaze had to think about how to say what was on his mind, but in the end, he was as honest as he could be.

"I don't know Deputy Director Russo personally, but he gives off bad vibes.
