How to Build a “Celebrating Plywood” Coffee Table

STEP 1: Start by cutting the plywood strips that are used to create the laminated plywood tabletop. I used 3/4" exterior plywood sheathing (actual thickness is 23/32"). If you have access to a table saw, it will make quick work of this step. Otherwise, use a circular saw and a straightedge. Cut the strips all from the same piece, cutting in the same direction, generally with the grain of the plywood surfaces. Clean up the strips to remove any splinters or tear-out.

STEP 2: Dry-assemble the strips for the whole tabletop, moving and shifting individual strips until you find the arrangement you desire. Exterior plywood has voids, so try to choose the nicest-looking edges for the tops of the strips.
