6. Secure the spacer with 2 (1¼-inch [3-cm]) wood screws. Install a side spacer aligned with the bottom edge of the side following the same process from steps 5 and 6. Repeat those steps to install the opposite side and top and bottom side spacers.

7. Begin layering the table. Align another 1 × 3 side piece on top of the installed side spacers.

8. Use a wood clamp to help hold the side piece in place and predrill one hole into the top and bottom into the side spacers below. Remove the side piece, apply wood glue to the spacers, reinstall the side piece and secure it with screws. Repeat steps 4 through 7, installing new sections until one row (the top and two sides) remains.
