Sex with Bert was mind-numbingly exquisite, but I still didn’t feel connected. It was like we filled a primal urge and then we moved on. It was back to the same old routine. He spent all day and most of the evening at work. I worked my shift, put Andre to bed, fell asleep alone, then we all met up for about twenty minutes over breakfast before the routine started over again.

It had been a week since our tryst, and it was Bert’s turn for Solo Saturday. I was feeling better about Holden’s bachelor party since I found out he refused to have it at Hill Country. He let everyone know that Emily was the only women he wanted to see naked and he wanted no part of hanging out in a strip club. The new plan was for them to meet up at Hooters. The guys could still ogle, but in a much tamer setting.

Emily and I took advantage of her mom’s offer to watch the kids and went in search of some fun for ourselves. The local bars were dead and the music they were playing left much to be desired for two women in the mood to incinerate the dance floor. If one more old man grabbed my ass while Hank Williams, Sr. crooned in the background, I was going to jail for assault. Sad thing was, after all that bar hopping, we ended up spending Em’s bachelorette party at the movie theater watching one of the worst romantic comedies ever made. Always the optimist, Emily told me that even though the night didn’t go as planned, we’d look back on it and laugh one day.

Andre was fast asleep and Celeste, Emily’s mother, insisted that I let him spend the night. His incessant, “But I wuv da baby”, melted her heart and she wouldn’t take no for an answer. How funny that kid of mine was! Not weeks before, he was insanely jealous of “da baby”. I caved and allowed him to stay.

Not wanting to spend the rest of the evening in an empty house with only me, myself, and I as company, I bypassed the turnoff for the street I lived on and continued on to DeSoto. Sure, Bert was there with Holden, but they were at Hooters and the city was big enough that I really didn’t have to worry about running into people I knew. One of the many signs I passed advertised an 80’s cover band playing live at one of the bars, so that’s where I went.

Whitesnake’s Here I Go Again played in the background as I carefully made my way through the dimly lit night club. The majority of the crowd was surrounding the stage, so I climbed on a stool at the bar, ordered a beer, and slowly sipped it for a while so I could get the feel of the place. One thing I had to say, the band was amazing! I was facing the stage and tapping my foot against the foot prop when I felt someone on the side of me.
