Chapter Five

She slowly relaxed on top of Vernon as she felt CJ gently pull free of her. Cool air caressed her back and ass, signaling that he had moved away. She started to get up from Vernon’s body, but he held her down.

“Don’t move, baby. Let CJ clean you up. We’ll take care of you.”

“I can clean myself up.” She wasn’t comfortable with the other man doing that.

“Nope. Be still, Jill.” Vernon’s draped arm across her back kept her there.

CJ returned with a warm, wet cloth and cleaned her up then helped her off of Vernon. When she would have gotten up to get a shower and dress, they positioned her between them in the bed.

“Don’t go yet, baby. Let us hold you.” CJ seemed to be able to tell she was antsy to move.

She felt closed in, caught between what she wanted before and what she wanted now. Namely, she wanted a relationship between the three of them that worked. She wanted her cake and to be able to eat it, too. Common sense dictated that it wouldn’t work. Everything she knew about human nature, sex, men, and life in general told her it was a fool’s belief that three people could make a relationship work between all of them. But she wanted it.

How long would it take until they would resent each other’s time with her, each becoming jealous of the other? Men just didn’t share. They were territorial to a fault. Hadn’t her experience proved that when everyone she had dated had wanted a commitment of some kind after only a few months of dating?

No, it couldn’t work. So what was she going to do about it? Go along until they all three shattered the easy camaraderie between them? Or suck it up and walk away now? Everything swirled around in her head, and if she were honest, her heart.

“What are you thinking so hard about, Jill? I have a feeling you’re trying to talk yourself out of a relationship with us.” Vernon’s deep voice never failed to make her shiver.

“It will never work. Surely you can see that. Eventually one of you is going to get jealous and pissed off at how much time I spend with the other. I can’t keep score and be sure I’m giving you equal time. That’s no way to live and I refuse to live that way.”

CJ spoke up. “I think you’re forgetting that there are three of us in this, not just you. We all work in towards making the relationship work. Jill, we know it works. We have friends who are in ménages and they are very happy, raising families even.”

“How long, CJ? How long have they managed to balance everything?”

“Greg and David have been in one for nearly fifteen years now. They have three kids. I’ve never seen them all happier. Pat is the most spoiled woman there is. They live in a town in West Texas called Riverbend. There are a lot of threesomes and foursomes there.
