“What exactly do you think you’re doing?” My uncle asks me.

He’s taken me aside on the bus while we’re on our way north, to admonish me about my more than obvious affection I’m showing towards Hunter. But I can’t seem to help myself. I’ve become so enamored with Hunter that I practically can’t think of anything else.

I ignore my uncle’s reprimanding at first because number one, he’s not my parent, and number two, I’m a grown adult and perfectly capable of making my own decisions.

Yes, I probably should be a little more discreet, especially after Hunter’s and my own conversation about my uncle suspecting. I am making an attempt to curb the obvious behavior, but the burgeoning feelings I’m having for him are much too strong for me to quell them completely.

“All I’m trying to tell you is to be careful and think about your career. One misstep and things can go south for you very quickly,” he preaches, albeit not as harshly as his first comment to me came across.

Finally, I give him my two cents on the matter when I tell him, “Uncle Brian, I highly doubt anyone would care if I came out as gay. It’s not as if I go out of my way to hide the fact that I am.”

I have of course been asked by members of the media or reporters who I’m dating or have dated, and I’ve mostly stuck to vague answers such as, ‘I don’t have the time,’ or ‘I date, but there’s nobody serious at the moment.’ These are the typical responses you hear from gay celebrities who haven’t fully come out of the closet.

I’m almost certain that there’s speculation around town that I am gay. When you’re out to your friends, band members, and to your family, word has a way of spreading… especially in a place like Hollywood, where gossip and rumors run rampant.

“You know as well as I do that every single media organization would love to get the scoop on you and out you to the public,” my uncle says to me.

As I’m talking to my uncle, I have a clear view of Hunter from across the bus and he’s just picked up his phone and begins talking to someone. My uncle catches us smiling at one another and now looks more perturbed than ever.

I begin to wonder what it is about this whole ordeal that’s really bothering my uncle.

Is it about me coming out as gay to the public and how it will affect my career, or is it about the fact that I shouldn’t be playing footsies with my bodyguard? Or is he jealous of the fact that I’m actually happy for once and having romantic feelings for someone?

“Uncle Brian, do you really think that I’m so famous that it’s going to matter if people know that I’m gay? Sure, I’ve had some success, but there are still a lot of people who have probably never heard of Silver Fire, let alone me.
