Vinny rolled over and blinked sleepily at Damien who sat on the edge of the bed, rolling on a pair of socks. “Is it time to get up, Daddy?”

He must have slept all night. Well, not all night, because his Daddy woke him up at least three times to remind himself what it was like to be buried inside Vinny’s body. Which was why Vinny’s ass ached so much. Vinny pressed down to feel that glorious ache.

“It is,” Damien said, “but take your time. I’ll make breakfast today. Get dressed when you’re ready.” Damien leaned over to give him a kiss. “And I want to see my boy in his new clothes.”

“Yes, Daddy.”

Damien grinned at him and left the bedroom, leaving Vinny staring up at the ceiling, a bit shell-shocked. Yesterday he’d woken in his little bedroom, an orphan boy who didn’t even know if his name was his own. Today he was Vincent Colman, eighteen years old, and boy to the best Daddy in the world.

And judging by the squeaking outside the door, Daddy to a puppy who wanted attention. Vinny rolled out of bed and opened the door to find Rexy looking up at him.

“Hey, little guy. What are you doing up here all by yourself?” He picked Rexy up, who then enthusiastically licked his nose. Vinny giggled. “You sit on the bed and wait for me to shower.”

He hoped Rexy didn’t have an accident on the bed. He decided to take a quick shower just in case.

Once he’d returned to the bedroom, Rexy seemed relaxed, taking a quick puppy nap. Vinny smiled fondly at him. He couldn’t quite believe the puppy was his. Then Vinny changed into new skinny jeans and long-sleeved T-shirt. He spent time admiring himself in the mirror. These were the first new clothes he’d ever owned. It was going to take time for him to recognize himself in the mirror. He noticed no one had bought him anything with green in it. If he could, Vinny would change his eye color in a heartbeat to the beautiful blue of his Daddy’s.

Vinny tucked Rexy into his arms and left the bedroom. He hoped there was oatmeal left in the pan as he was feeling hungry now.

He was on the point of pushing the door open to the kitchen when he heard Damien mention his name and not in a “I love my boy,” way he’d used all night.

“I’m sorry, Damien, but it’s the only way to keep him safe.”

Vinny waited to hear what his Daddy said as Jake sounded so grim.

“No, he stays here with me—us,” Damien insisted. “I’m not letting my boy out of sight, and nobody is to tell him.”

Vinny pressed his lips together. Tell him what? He hated the thought Damien was keeping secrets from him. He wasn’t a little kid anymore.

“This is a green coat we’re talking about. These are dangerous fuckers. You don’t think when he turns up on the doorstep, Vinny might realize we’ve been keeping something from him?” Alec said.
