Tiger Grouper
Size: Adults grow to a maximum of 2 feet
Depth Range: Can be found in depths ranging from 20 to 60 feet
About: Tiger groupers are reddish in color and are highly unique because they are the only grouper species with 9-11 pale stripes that angle down and taper, like the stripes on a tiger. They are known for their habit of launching surprise attacks on their prey. They usually hide in holes in the reef, waiting patiently for small juvenile fish to swim by. When they sight potential prey, they use powerful suction to draw them into their mouths. They are one of the prettiest groupers to look at, with stunning streamlined bodies.
