I sit on the leather sofa and prop up my right leg. My moron brothers are arguing about what game we’re going to watch with my brother-in-law. At the end of each family dinner, the Russo boys leave the table and head out back to “blow off a little steam.” We take turns starting an argument, then my mother orders us to go somewhere and fix it. Our acting is getting worse with age, and we don’t fool anyone. Even four-year-old Tatiana knows it’s all bullshit.

“You’re awfully quiet.” My dad hands me a can of soda. “Do you need some pain medication?”

I shake my head. “I’m not in pain.” At least not in my healing limbs. Being away from my girl actually causes my heart to ache.

“So, when are you going to make a move on Lynette?” Hudson asks, and I attempt to ignore the nosy asshole.

“Do you need our help?” Jake hands me a beer and drops down on the end of the sofa. “I mean, we were able to catch our women.” Fucker. Asshat. Like I need help from the Russo morons.

“Thanks, but I have it all under control.”

“I bet.” My older brother shakes his head. “That’s why you’re still a surly asshole.”

“No.” I point my beer at him. “I’m an asshole because you morons are getting in my business.”

My dad walks over and sits next to me. “We’re just trying to help you,” he assures me. “We don’t want to see you fuck things up.” Great. My family has no confidence in me at all.

“I’ll let you guys know if I need your help.” I give them the response they’re looking for, hoping to get them off my ass.
