It had been almost a week since I last saw Audrey, but the thought of the other night had stayed with me, chastising my thoughts at each turn. Although she kept sending candies and cookies for Elysha and Lily time to time, but she didn’t show up to see them since that night. And the girls had made it a point of duty to terrorize me with questions about her every day.

Almost every morning before going to the camp, Lily would pummel me with different questions. “When is Audrey coming to see us? Will she come this weekend? When are we going to the store?” She kept asking, not stopping until I made her promise to take her and Elysha to the store soon.

I was lucky we still had a month's worth of supply, so I did not have to go to the store under duress for fear of running into her and making things even more awkward than these were already. I felt like a teenager. Sometimes I wondered why she had not come around; this was highly unusual.

“Maybe she was embarrassed by the other night. Maybe it was all alcohol.” I thought to myself. “Could it be because I left without a goodbye the next morning?” I also didn’t take her calls when she called me two days later.”

It was a terrible way to handle the situation, not even after the moment we got intimate. But I had been in serious conflict with myself since that morning. I did feel a tinge of guilt for the way I treated Audrey and betrayal for even going there at all. “Maybe I was not completely over Shelley as I had earlier thought.”

I stood up from my desk and shut down my laptop. I couldn’t work anyway. I sat there for over an hour, moving from one thought to the other, trying to rationalize the state of things between myself and Audrey. I was a billionaire CEO, who had cracked so many deals but I felt helpless here.

I looked up at the wall clock and realized it was more than twenty minutes past the time Elysha and Lily closed at the camp. “Shit!” I said as I grabbed my car keys and rushed to the car.

I had never been late as I was about to be to the camp. I was always at the parking lot ten minutes before the closing time, getting weird stares from mothers that treated me like I was honey. Some of them who were bold like Ms. Brenda even tried to throw themselves on me.

The camp was thirty minutes’ drive. I wondered why it had to be that far. It was the only weekday camp in the small town, so we had no other choice. I made it down in twenty-five minutes and saw Lily waving from Ms. Brenda's car. Her daughter was in the same camp class with Lily, and she had not stopped talking about her in first few weeks of camp.
