A passing thought of punishing her for her impudence darted through him. He’d punish her harder, longer.

He initiated a map from his wrist comm, pulling it up into the air and flipping through the layout of the city until he found the hospital. It was quiet now, the bystanders gone. The fire raged, having moved midline and consuming more of the building. Enlarging the image, he went infrared and focused in on the lab.

“Show me where your working quarters are.”

She looked awed at the image before her, faltered a little before pointing. “Here. Can you tell if anyone is inside?”

“Yes. It is deserted. The entire wing is deserted.”

“The lab is protected by firewalls. That’s probably why no one has gone in to retrieve the valuables yet. But… this fire will burn right through that, won’t it?”

Their eyes met and he didn’t have to tell her the answer. Her expression fell. “I need to go to my lab. Please. I can collect the sample we’ll find a way to stop this animal. And I’ll create the weapon and you’ll get my brother. Please.”

Her sadness hit him square in the chest, her soft pleading weakening something within him. He could be both King and warrior if he escorted her to her lab. She was offering to do more than what he required of her.

His cock stirred again. She was strong, crafty. She knew how to play this game to survive.

“I will take you and your friend. If you cause any difficulty, I promise, you’ll suffer at my hand.”

The threat didn’t come out ominously as he intended. His voice was dripping with lust.
