The guards must’ve alerted their father. Had that beast given a shit, he certainly would’ve come out to investigate their arrival for himself. He was scared of them because only ghastly, untrustworthy things can survive death. Even Allison knew that.

She could’ve used her power to get them inside, but what good would that have done? They hadn’t been mourned.

Allison and Abigail snuck into an abandoned cottage at the end of Strieth. It was tucked away next to a decrepit field and easily missed, which was a good thing since they were worried that their father’s men were going to try and hunt them down.

There was so much to think about, yet all they wanted to do was escape the world and fall asleep in a dusty bed. The beautiful thing was, that’s exactly what they did.

No one took watch, for neither of them could brave asking that of each other. They simply figured that if it came down to it, they would hear the guards coming.

For the first time in a long time, Allison and Abigail shared a room. I mean, it wasn’t like the house had two, but still.
