1 pound butter

1 pound light brown sugar

4 to 5 cups flour

With an electric mixer, combine butter, sugar, and as much flour as possible. Finish mixing with hands. Roll out to ¼-inch thickness. Use a thimble to make impressions of 3 intertwined rings and cut. Bake at 350° for about 10 minutes, until barely brown on edges. Do not overbake. Store in a tight tin box.

Makes 6 to 8 dozen.

Walker’s Drugstore Candy Bar Cookies

A sweet remedy.

1 cup margarine, softened

¾ cup sugar

¾ cup brown sugar

2 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2½ cups self-rising flour

3 candy bars, any kind

Mix margarine, sugars, eggs, and vanilla. Add flour and mix. Cut or chop candy bars into pieces and mix into dough. Drop by teaspoonful onto a cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 10 to 12 minutes.

Makes about 3 dozen.
