When Rhys entered Declan’s penthouse, he widened his eyes at his surroundings. He was a little afraid to take off his coat and hat as he went through the living area. “Do you need all this space? It is just you who stays here, right?”

“Yes, it is just me, and I like my space. Never know when I’m going to have someone in a state, such as yourself, who needs a place to stay. Go ahead and take your coat and hat off. Blanca will clean up.”

Nodding, Rhys did as he was told, placing the items over the back of a chair and following Declan into one of the two bedrooms.

“There’s fresh towels and such in the bathroom. There’s a robe in there as well and some slippers. Have you had dinner?” Declan asked as he watched Rhys.

“No. I haven’t, but I’m fine, really, Declan.”

Declan smiled and shook his head as he made his way to the door. “Nonsense, I’ll call down and have François make you something.”

Rhys sighed, not sure he really wanted this job anymore if it was going to entail being Declan’s pet. “All right.” Reaching up, he slipped his suit jacket off, letting it fall into a soggy heap on the floor. He loosened his tie, growing curious as to whether Declan was going to watch him undress.

“I’ll leave you to it, then.”

Without another word, Declan disappeared from the room, closing the door behind him, leaving Rhys to go into the bathroom and gasp at the sheer size of the tub that was resting against one of the walls; the claw feet seeming to float on top of some sort of art deco balls. He sat on the edge of the tub and turned on the faucet, watching his reflection ripple as the water level rose.

“So, this is what I’ve become?” he breathed out, reaching down and slapping at the water, causing his face to distort into one he no longer recognised.
