Two fingers under. As your shooting distances increase somewhat, you’ll find that with three fingers under you can’t aim high enough to hit the target while maintaining correct body alignment. This is the time to switch to the split finger hook (figure 6.7). Once you can draw the bow consistently to the corner of your mouth using the split finger hook, and you’re shooting consistent groups in the target, it’s time to move your anchor down, to under your jaw. To accomplish this, take a minute to find your corner-of-the-mouth anchor point (without using your bow). Now, bring your hand straight down so that the fist knuckle of your index finger rests directly under your jawbone, and bring your hand slightly forward so that the second knuckle of your index finger is just below, and touching, the corner of your chin (figure 6.8). This is essentially the same hand position as the corner-of-the-mouth anchor point, but just with bone-on-bone contact between the hand and the jaw. The hand is just farther forward so that when you draw the bowstring, it comes to rest gently on the front of your nose and on the corner of your chin.
