1. This more grounded attitude can be seen in Mark Frost’s independent work: writing for Hill Street Blues television drama, a thriller novel entitled Before I Wake, non-fiction bestseller entitled The Greatest Game Ever Played, as well as two additional books about the history of golf, and nonfiction book about the 1975 World Series entitled Game Six.

2. Do these transcendental worlds imply the afterlife? Is the Red Room purgatory? Is the Black Lodge hell? This much isn’t clear. The ambiguity and interpretative flexibility of these transcendent worlds certainly undercut any traditional Christian overtones.

3. James Hurley and MIKE are the only New Testament Christian names directly connected to Laura Palmer. Other characters, such as police officer Andy Brennan, expert chess player Pete Martell, and Bobby Briggs’ high school drug-buddy Mike Nelson, also have New Testament Christian names, but these characters are not personally connected with Laura’s spiritual endeavor.
