Chapter 26

I flew under the cover of night in my full Apex costume, heading toward the address Ivy gave me. From an aerial perspective, finding her place would’ve been almost impossible, but the GPS in my phone came in handy for just that.

As gung-ho as I was, I was surprised at myself that I was doing this. I was basically married to Xara, but I was also technically dating Casey, and now I was on my way to see Ivy. Having my sperm milked by Vanessa took it to a whole new level.

And to top it all off, it was expected of me.

If this was life’s way of rewarding my choice to fight on humanity’s behalf, I was more than game. This was pretty awesome.

The densely populated city gave way to a sparse expanse of flatlands where an RV park awaited me. Ivy lived in the RV the furthest away from everyone else’s, and it was also the biggest—one of the newer ones.

Double-checking my location, I tucked my phone into a holster on the back of my belt and lowered myself toward the motor home—when a blur blasted past me.

It was Ivy.

I held position in midair, my cape blowing in the direction she flew on each pass. Was she messing with me? She’d fly within inches of me, then change direction on a dime.

Whatever this game was, I wasn’t a fan of it. I could’ve been at home with Xara right then, and if she was trying to show off her speed, I got the point.

On her next pass I decided to show off a little speed of my own. She flew straight at me from the left, then banked to her right which is when I crossed my arms, and flew sideways at a velocity so immediate that I left a sonic boom.

I intercepted her in an upright position, appearing in front of her even with her head start. Ivy stopped abruptly, leaning back like she was skidding to a halt before a gust of displaced air smashed into me from her sudden change in speed.

She wasn’t in her costume either, she was wearing baby-blue silky pajama pants with a matching spaghetti-strap top. Barefoot.

And she wasn’t wearing a bra—not that she needed one for breasts as small as hers—but the cold air at our altitude had certainly made them pokey.

“Not bad,” she said.

“You done?” I asked.

“That depends on why you’re here,” Ivy replied.

She couldn’t see where my eyes were looking thanks to the diffusers, but I was staring right at her hazel eyes.

“To see you,” I said.

Ivy put her hands on her hips, then glanced down at her RV. “Want a drink?”

“Alcohol doesn’t affect me.”

Ivy smirked as a cool breeze tussled her short hair to the side. “Me neither. What do you like?”

“Surprise me.”

Ivy rotated herself in the direction of her RV, then nodded her head toward it. “Come on in.”

Endeared by her crude hospitality, both of us dropped down to ground level where the entrance to her RV faced away from the rest of the park.
