In an official attempt at raising labour productivity through encouraging competitive overwork, President Wilhelm Pieck makes awards at a 'Heroes of Work' ceremony in the Berlin State Opera House, on the 'Activists' Day', 13 October 19jo. The slogan behind the dignitaries reads 'Fame and Honour to the Heroes of Work'.
