The dance was in full swing when Robbie and Elliot arrived. They donned their name tags and strolled over to the refreshment table. Robbie glanced around and waved and smiled at Coach Wilkensen and his wife. He knew most everyone here with a few exceptions.
Robbie was wearing the only nice clothes he owned: a frayed silk tie, a hand-me-down brown jacket, an age-yellowed white shirt, a dated pair of pleated khaki slacks, and his one pair of good shoes. He didnât look anywhere nearly as sharp as this crowd, but he was at least presentable.
Elliot was nattily dressed in a new suit and stylish shoes, and his auburn hair was fashionably cut and arranged just so. He was an English major with a Business Minor, tall and slender, nice but pretentious.
âIs this the best you have to wear?â he frowned when Robbie stopped at his door.
âItâs this or my cheerleading outfit,â Robbie joked. âI figured I should dress up.â
âMaybe no one will notice,â Elliot shrugged.
Robbie saw Major and Simon sitting at a table across the room. Major was wearing a black suit, white shirt, and a dark gray tie. Jeez, he was kinda hot all dressed up, Robbie thought. Simon looked totally adorable as always. He was wearing beige slacks with a navy satin vest and tie. Tonight, he wore a bright smile.
âThereâs Major,â Robbie pointed. âLetâs go talk to them.â
They made their way across the room. Andres and his date were sitting with the pair.
âHey, guys,â Robbie grinned. âYou all look amazing.â
âSo do you, bro,â Major stood up and hugged him.
âThis is Elliot,â Robbie said. âElliot, this is Major and Simon. This is Andres andâ¦â
âTiffany,â Andres said with a straight face.
Robbieâs eyes widened, and Andres laughed.
âIâm just joking, man. This is Ebony.â
âHi,â Elliot smiled.
âI love your name,â Robbie shook her hand.
She was tall and svelte with a dazzling smile. Her formfitting gown was gold and navy and sparkly. âOh my god, you are gorgeous. Iâd almost consider switching teams for you.â
âThanks,â she chuckled. âThatâs high praise coming from a gay man.â
Blair and Melissa walked up and sat down at the table with plates laden with food. He purposely avoided looking at Robbie. Everyone sat down except for Robbie and Elliot.
Robbieâs heart broke a little more when he saw Blair. He looked so handsome in a tailored suit that Tiffany had bought him.
âHi, Blair,â he tried to sound cordial. âYouâre looking well.â
âOh my god, youâre Blair Butterfield!â Elliot exclaimed. âYou made two touchdowns in the first game of the season.â
âUh, yeah, thatâs me,â Blair frowned uncomfortably.
âI scored two touchdowns too,â Andres said wryly.
âIâm Elliot,â Elliot ignored Andres and reached across the table to shake Blairâs hand. âIâm a huge fan of yours. On the field and off.â
Oh god, another fan of his porn videos, Blair sighed. Andres and Major nodded knowingly at each other.
âIn fact, the whole reason I agreed to come with Robbie tonight is because of your movies.â
âHi, Iâm Melissa,â Melissa said, annoyed that no one was going to introduce her.
