“I dinnae ken, me Laird,” pleaded Archer.

“What did ye nae ken?” shouted Kieren.

“We kissed,” whimpered Archer. “She was upset about goin’ to her father’s house, and she needed a shoulder to cry on. That’s all that I thought it was, and I daenae ken how it happened, but we kissed. I thought that it was over with ye, I swear!”

Kieren let Archer go, dropping him to the ground, and he let out a painful sigh. He refused to believe it. There was no way that Millie would have done that to him. Archer picked himself up and dusted off his trews and shirt. He looked down at the ground, not meeting the eyes of the Laird.
