ready to unload this bun from my oven! I got a pretty decent room, I loved my OBGYN, and then they give me some ice chips. I don’t know whose idea it was to give birthing mom’s ice chips. The fact was, it seemed a little outlandish to me because I had rather had nothing than to be teased with ice. I was induced around 8 p.m. Let me tell you, “I labored” through all night into the wee hours of the morning. The contractions I experienced cannot be compared to anything I’ve ever felt. To say it felt like the worse cramps in my lower abdomen, back, pelvis, and uterus I’ve ever felt in my life is an understatement. As the contractions came and went closer and closer together throughout the night and morning, I was reconsidering a natural birth. The movies I’ve seen with women having babies did not prepare me for what I was experiencing. I thought I could do a natural birth, consequently, by 3 to 4 centimeters, I was definitely asking for the nurse to order an epidural for me. I got the epidural around 4 centimeters, and oh boy, I could finally catch a little sleep!

After getting a little rest, it was mid-morning when I saw my husband in a chair along the wall. My mother had been called and made it to the hospital just before I started pushing. His mother was present as well. An hour or two later, I felt my water break. It felt just like a balloon bursting below. I didn’t know if I would feel it since I had the epidural, but I knew right away. So nurses were called, and they came in to check me, and it was time to start the pushing.

Apparently, I was pushing incorrectly at first because I was told to stop and was directed by the doctor on how to push correctly. I must’ve got it right the second time around because she’d say I was
