Afterwards, in bed, they listened to the tape.

“It’s real, all right,” Zipper said. “And you know what? They could pull it off. Some of it was in their language, though. I wonder what they were saying?”

“Enough is on the tape that we know what they plan to do,” Isela said. “I haven’t ever gone to a baseball game at the stadium. Have you?”

“No. At least not in Milwaukee. I never was a baseball fan. But I know enough to stay away from the stadium when there’s a gamethe freeways are a mess. They pack in a lot of damn people.”

“They said they were going to practice driving into the stadium lot on game days—they said three times.”

Zipper said, “Maybe we should make another copy of the tape. Do you have blanks?”

“Yeah. I have a few left.”

“We gotta make sure we don’t erase the first one,” Zipper said.

“I’ll do it the same way. There won’t be a problem. Are you going to give it to Mitchell, then?”

“Yeah. I’ll call him tomorrow. But we have to keep this secret—and that means we don’t say anything to anybody, and that includes Ramon. You know how he is about any kind of cop. The club doesn’t know about Mitchell and I want to keep it that way. They’d never trust me again if they knew one of my best friends was a federal agent.”

“I won’t say a thing,” she said.

“Good.”
