After the theatre’s performance was over, Mike and Samantha looked around a bit for Matt and Sarah. They didn’t want to appear to be waiting so they just kind of slowly walked to Mike’s car. “I think they left early,” Mike said.

“Probably,” agreed Samantha, “we did kind of horn in on their date even if it was by accident.”

“I wonder where they went?” mused Mike.

“Why?” Samantha asked.

“Oh, I don’t know. Just curious.”

Samantha got into the car and as Mike got in she asked him to just take her home. He looked at her questioningly.

“Did I do or say something wrong?” he asked.

“No, Mike. I just don’t feel well right now.” She paused and leaned over and kissed him. “I did have a nice time. The dinner was wonderful, and I really enjoyed the show, but for tonight, I’d just like to be taken home. Okay?” She looked up at him with big eyes.

“Sure, Sweetheart.”

He took her to her house and walked her to the door. She gave him one last kiss for the evening and slipped inside without inviting him in. The door closed the minute she was through the doorway. He decided to swing by Sarah’s house on his way home. He saw the parent’s car in the drive and then noticed Matt’s car parked on the street. Mike got curious. He parked behind Matt’s car and got out.

He snuck up to the front window. He started to peer in when the front door opened, and Matt stepped out. Matt was about to give Sarah a kiss when he saw the shadow of a person. He pushed for Sarah to get back in the house saying that someone was stalking around. Sarah slammed the door and turned on the lights just as Matt was about to jump on the perceived intruder.

“It’s me! It’s me!” shouted Mike.

Matt stopped and looked at him. The front door opened, and Mr. Cunningham stepped out with a gun pointed at the boys. “Hold it right there!” he shouted.

“It’s just Mike, Mr. Cunningham,” Matt called over. Matt and Mike moved over by Sarah’s dad who let the gun point down after seeing who it was. There were police sirens in the distance coming nearer.

“What’s going on, Mike?” Mr. Cunningham asked.

“I, that is Samantha and I were at the theatre this evening and didn’t see Matt or Sarah leave, so after dropping Samantha off, I thought I’d see if Matt was over here, and then when I saw his car, I headed up here.”

Two police cars came to a screeching halt in front of the house. The two officers jumped out, but could see that there didn’t appear to be any danger. The police lights brought out the neighbors. One of the officers called out to Sarah’s father as he approached. “Is everything okay, Mr. Cunningham? Your daughter called and said there was a prowler trying to get in, and that her boyfriend was confronting him.”

By this time, Sarah and Simone were outside the door. Sarah looked over.
