One of the few places one can fairly easily drive near or walk onto a glacier, Matanuska Glacier straddles the glacier’s terminus in the valley of its namesake river, which it feeds. The state park near it offers campsites and a hiking trail that provides great views of the glacier’s terminus, which is on private property and accessible only by utilizing the guide service at the glacier’s foot. A zipline enhances the adventure, and ice climbing and raft trips are available for the more adventurous.
