On the far side of the airbase Coyle, Granier, and Terry entered another hangar. Terry had been a fighter pilot flying F-86s and F-100s. The more Coyle and Granier talked with the captain, the more they realized that he knew his stuff when it came to flying air-to-ground support. Inside the hangar was a Convair C-131B twin-engine aircraft painted with standard Air Force insignia. The back door had been taken off and a 7.62 mm General Electric GAU-2/M134 minigun was mounted on the deck. “What the hell is that?” said Coyle.

“It’s a Gatling gun,” said Granier, intrigued.

“It’s called a minigun,” said Terry. “It’s made by General Electric.”

“You only have one,” said Coyle.

“I only need one. That little beast has more firepower than ten machine guns.”

“I heard about ‘em, but I’ve never seen one,” said Granier.

“There’s only a few in-country. As you can imagine, they’re in high demand.”

“What’s the rate of fire?”

“Six thousand rounds a minute max, but we usually run between 3,000 and 4,000.”

“Nice. How does it work?”

“It has an electric motor that rotates the barrels. Let’s take her up and I’ll show you.”
