This completes the exercise. As you can see, manipulating lighting can have a dramatic impact on a scene. Areas of light and dark help define the overall composition and guide the viewers attention to objects of importance in the 3D scene. The next exercise adds color to the mix.

Mixing Color with Lights

The previous exercise demonstrated how visible lights can affect the overall composition. Adding color can also affect the mood within the 3D environment. CINEMA 4D Lite allows you to cast colored light on your 3D scene, similar to adding gels in a photography studio. Gels are a special type of colored plastic placed over a light source. They tint the light to a different color.

Physical lights, by themselves, offer a wide variety of shades of white light, ranging from a yellowish to a bluish white light. Light color is measured on a temperature scale referred to as Kelvin (K). Lower Kelvin numbers mean the light appears more yellow; higher Kelvin numbers mean the light is whiter or bluer. Color gels are used to create lighting accents and unnatural, artistic effects on stage or in film.
