Chapter 12: Freaking

I made it to my internship at the police department exactly on time despite the fact that I was still feeling distracted. I had debated all day if I should text Troy, but I didn't. I felt mortified that I'd put him into a potential precarious situation. The fact that I had to go to my internship after school made it all the worse. I was afraid Detective Dixon was going to arrest Troy when I was there. On the upside, at least I'd made it through the rest of my day without running into Ariel at school. Then again, maybe she was sent home and that was why I hadn't seen her. Ugh. She'd be on the warpath with me if that had happened.

I'd also managed to call Yolanda's best friend, Trina, between school and getting to the internship. She hadn't answered her phone, so after a quick debate I left a brief message saying that I needed to talk to her about Yolanda. I hoped to pique her interest, but I didn't want to scare her off. I had to believe that if Detective Dixon hadn't dragged him down to the police station yet, that he was alright. I still had a little time to play with and besides, what would Troy do if I did tell him? Only guilty people ran. Right?

When I got to my desk it was clear. There were no files or anything on it for me to copy, so I sat down to wait until I was given some work. It was actually pretty likely that someone would ask me to get him or her a coffee once they realized I was there. It was one of the perks of having an intern and they all took advantage of it.

The cool thing about my internship was that if nothing was going on, I could do some homework. I didn't feel like it today, though. Later. I pulled my phone out of my purse instead. I scanned through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, but there was nothing going on in my social media feeds. I could read a book on my phone since I hadn't brought a paperback with me, but I didn't feel like that either. I glanced at my
