Rapid Recall

The study showed that speed readers spend less time recalling information from text. They remembered numbers and definitions, but not necessarily the context of new facts. They found that while average adults recall more than 60% of what they read, speed readers recalled only 45%. That probably means that they are not focusing on strong visuals and details from a single point of view.

Speed reading is best used by people who read three to five hours a day or less. It can be used by adults, but only with some potential for improvement. Speed reading is usually learned unconsciously, so it takes some practice and determination to get the technique down. Many speed readers believe in the technique enough to consider it an art form.
