Diarrhoea and Vomiting

Vomiting and diarrhoea together are generally signs of gastrointestinal upset. Causes range from the animal picking up and eating something bad, they may have caught a virus, acquired parasites, or more complicated issues such as cancer or kidney failure.

If your pet seems not to be feeling well and has been vomiting and/or suffering from diarrhoea, it is essential you see your veterinarian.

What to do if a pet is suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea

Remove all food and water.

Check for signs of dehydration (see section on dehydration)

If no vomiting occurs for 6 to 8 hours, provide small quantities of clear liquids such as water, Gatorade/Lucozade, Pedialyte, or other electrolyte solution. You can even make a home-made solution by mixing together:
