The need to kill, lit a fire in my blood, that would never be fully extinguished until I’d finally killed that bastard, Logan.

But there was another side to this equation, one that couldn’t be ignored.

True, things were easier before I met Amira. But every time I look at her emerald, green eyes and lips sweeter than cherries, all seems right in the world. War could be raging all around me, but once I saw her face the world transformed into a calming serenity.

Was this what they called true love? I’d thought I felt it before. But if there was one thing meeting Amira taught me, it's that love goes so much deeper and stretches so much further than I ever thought possible.

This is why it broke my heart to see her like this. Amira laid in the fetal position on the hotel couch, curling her body up so tight she could almost disappear.

She had a dead look in her eyes, one that said she’d given everything and had nothing left within her.

She’d been this way since we got back from the magical hardware store three hours ago. We’d checked into a motel a few miles away to plot our next move.

But so far all we’d managed to do was sulk and mutter death threats about Logan under our breaths. Miles sat on the couch by Amira’s head, stroking her hair comfortingly. Syrus sat on the tip of the bed hunched over with his face resting in both his palms.

Ragnaron sat in a chair in the corner with a grumpy look on his face. His eyes were fixed on the wall on the opposite end of the room. And by the way he gave out a low growl every few seconds, he too was imagining murdering Logan in a savage and terrible way.

“Alright. That’s enough of that. We’ve licked our wounds enough.” Syrus finally broke the silence popping his face from the cup of his palms. “Now it’s time for us to switch to plan B.”

“Plan B?” I asked. “Well don’t keep us all waiting. I’m dying to hear it. What’s plan B?”

“Well, I don’t know yet.” Syrus threw his hands wide. “That’s why we have to discuss it. You, know, come up with a new plan? Instead of just sitting here on our asses waiting for the world to end.”

His sarcasm rang like a judgment bell. As if he thought this was my fault.

My jaw gaped open as I readied to curse Syrus raw. A whimper escaped Amira’s lips and I decided against it, training my eyes on her instead.
