Latch-hooking was something I did as a kid and recently this old pastime has started popping up in fun new ways. Create your own distinctive pattern by randomly marking out groups of like colors throughout the white background. While it is faster to buy precut lengths of rug yarn, I like creating an uneven surface by hand-cutting various lengths of yarn, sections at a time. The end result will make the stool cover feel like a handmade, heirloom piece. The basic construction of this stool is easy, but it will take you a couple days to complete the latch-hooking portion of this project. Queue up a few good movies and get started!

SUPPLIES

3.75 mesh blank rug canvas, 36 x 60-inch package

Three 160-yard skeins of #261 Paternayan yarn, or similar yarn in ivory (see Tip)

Two 160-yard skeins of #260 Paternayan yarn, or similar yarn in white

Two 8-yard skeins of #325 Paternayan yarn, or similar yarn in light plum

One 8-yard skein of #886 Paternayan yarn, or similar yarn in light peach

Two 8-yard skeins of neon yellow Paternayan yarn, or similar yarn in yellow

5 yards of #3 or #4 sage green wool yarn

5 yards of #3 or #4 fire-red wool yarn

8 yards of #6 or #7 rust-color thick wool roving yarn

Four 16-inch Wegner Danish modern leg, in soft maple (Home Depot or Lowe’s)

15-inch edge-glued pine round, 1 inch thick (Home Depot or Lowe’s)

Four Waddell angle top table leg installation plates (Home Depot or Lowe’s)

Sixteen 1-inch screws to fit mounting plate holes

Wood stain with soft cloth and rubber gloves (optional)
