CHAPTER FIVE

The next two days passed pretty similarly.

I hunted, or tried to, still finding little more than rabbits, plucking whatever wild onion and other edible plant life I found out of the ground, and I searched the other two cabins on the lake. One of them looked like it had been disturbed recently, but none of them held anything of use. I did other things, like chop firewood, and helped Susan start to clean the basement, something they’d neglected to do so far I had learned after asking about it.

There could be anything down there, among the two dresser, tables, and pile of boxes stacked in one corner. At the very least those dressers would make for good burning material. I noticed a change in Susan over those two days. She became less cold towards me, started being nicer, friendlier. It was a welcome change. I did whatever I could to facilitate it. Although she was still frustrated each morning, after listening to Lara and I fuck like rabbits. She was probably sexually frustrated, which helped stack the odds in my favor for her putting out.

I was still thinking a lot about her.

While Lara was more traditionally sexy: curvy, demure, with great hair, Susan was something else. She was sexy in the way that tough, confident women were. Something about her grim certainty and slim build and take-no-bullshit attitude, made me want to...heh, well, conquer her. I wanted to make her want my cock, want to suck it and ride it and take it hard. And the more time I spent around her, the more powerful it got.

Well, I got my wish near the middle of the fourth day.

Lara left to go on a walk, which I found pretty strange, but Susan was surprisingly calm about, hand-waving it away as something she just did.

“What if she runs into trouble?” I asked, and suddenly remembered the first time we’d met. Had that been one of her walks? What the hell had she been doing out there, anyway?

“She has my pistol,” Susan replied without looking up from the book she was reading. She was sitting on the couch in the living room, and looked pretty good in the sunshine.

“Why didn’t she have it last time?” I asked.

“When you first met? Well, she had a knife, and we’ve got you and your rifle now. I was a lot more worried about her then, but she’s got the pistol now, and she’s less dumb that she seems, and a decent shot now.”

“...all right,” I replied, and walked over to the window. Something seemed odd about it. Lara had been a little evasive when she’d wanted to go out there, and it made me wonder if she was hooking up with someone else. I wouldn’t put it past her. Well, we’d have to talk about that. I realized that I hadn’t actually laid down an exclusivity clause in our ‘arrangement’, such as it was, but I thought it was a decently fair thing to ask for.
