Warehouse 54

“An enemy prisoner captured in February 1969 in BA [Base Area] 101, northeast of the [A Shau] valley described a major supply station located in the north end of the valley. The prisoner said porters from BA 101 walked two days west and three days south to reach ‘Warehouse 54.’”8 Captain Albert W. Estes, a FAC working with the 3rd Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (COL Joseph B. Conmy), picks up the story:

About 1 April the brigade intelligence officer, Captain Robert Fredricks [sic], called several FACs to the brigade headquarters and outlined his idea of a lucrative storage area at YD 355075 and asked the FACs to look in a 2,000 meter radius of the point. He had developed this point from several sources including POWs and agent reports. . . . The FACs were very skeptical. . . . [t]hey looked and found a heavily canopied area with a few trails and no excessive activity. ‘We didn’t pay much attention to it and we’d report back every day that we couldn’t see anything.’9
