Chapter 18

Seconds passed, Aelloren’s heart thundering in her chest. She had yet to feel any pain. Was dying this easy?

She peeked open under one eyelid and suddenly heard a deafening crash before her, two muscular figures standing before her. They both wore battle garments, fiercely putting the other Warrior Fae she’d seen in the city so far to shame.

“Damn, I hope this act of chivalry gives me some brownie points, Ren,” remarked Tristan, his golden hair still shining brilliantly even in this gray, dirty fog.

Lucio simply looked at her from head to toe in pure annoyance. He glared at Aelloren with those depthless, emerald eyes as if trying to say something. Instead, he swung his silver Paladin sword over his shoulder and walked over to Zenith, who gave him a quick knowing smile.

“’bout time you bastards showed up,” he said, patting Lucio’s shoulder like an old friend.

“What the hell are you doing fighting an S-rank on your own?” chastised Lucio.

Laughing, Zenith responded, “I never run from a battle. You know me.”

Aelloren stared at Nomuk, struggling to stand up again. Tristan helped her stand and immediately closed the gap between them. He gently caressed the scar on her cheek, the one from the night they met at Fly’s Trap. “I’m so relieved you’re safe.”

A slight blush rose in her cheeks. “I’m fine, but Grimora needs our help. I think she’s been poisoned. Badly.”

“She’ll be fine if we act quickly. It’s safer she stays where she is for now.”

“Blondie is right. Let’s kill this piece of shit,” remarked Zenith.

Zenith whirled his golden mace in the air in a perfect circle, emitting strong waves after waves of provoking power. Nomuk immediately locked its many eyes on him, charging its sharp pincers straight for his head. He effortlessly blocked its attack and returned with a swinging blow. Tristan slammed his Pugilist fists together as a large, red circle formed beneath his entire body. Jumping high into the air, he spun back down as a sphere of fire emitted from his fists and attacked the spider directly on its back.

Nomuk screeched in pain as Tristan continued attacking with one cast after another, his stamina never-ending. Aelloren caught a fiery grin on his face, almost like he was enjoying the battle.

Lucio raised his sword and shield and cast a quick spell as deep, midnight circles appeared around his silver weapon. He lowered his battle stance, and faster than light, he pushed his entire body forward in one movement as Lucio directed his attack straight for the joint between Nomuk’s body and abdomen. A large explosion emitted from the point of impact, so vigorous that she shielded her entire face from the strong winds.

They all fought in harmony.

Zenith maintained aggro as Lucio continued to attack without ever running out of breath. It was fight or die.

Tristan positioned himself underneath one of Nomuk’s legs and quickly unleashed another powerful attack, a thin wall of fire erupting through the flesh. He quickly dodged the spider’s vengeful attack as it spewed dark, pungent liquid everywhere from its wound.
