A Change Begins

While we lived in Deadwood, I became friends with a dentist who had a somewhat unpleasant personality. He believed that we lived, died and were dust, with no purpose or meaning. That we were just a random fluke of nature, nothing more, and nothing else. So, you had better have a good time now while you can because this is it. This is all there is. He believed in living life to the fullest of his ability and he did. Traveling, skiing, diving in the ocean or going wherever he wanted to go. One winter he and his wife were downhill skiing near Jackson Hole Wyoming. He was flying down the mountain too fast when he lost control of his skis', fell and broke his leg quite severely. The ski patrol rescued him, hauled him off the mountain to an awaiting ambulance and transported him to the hospital in Jackson Hole. The ER doctors promised they would make him comfortable and control his pain. His surgeon had the nurses put him in a quiet room at the far end of the hall where he could get some rest and they would plan on surgery for the next morning.

This was a hospital filled with seasoned professionals but somehow someone accidentally transposed the dose of narcotic pain medication and the time interval of dosing on his chart. He received double the dose in half the amount of time. The first dose was not a problem but the second or third would be highly dangerous. That evening his wife was planning to go to a well-known, highly recommended restaurant with family and friends for a relaxing evening. At the very last minute, something made her change her mind. She decided not to leave him, but to stay by his bedside and keep him company. After a dose of pain medication, he fell asleep. His wife decided to sit quietly and read her book. After a little while she noticed that he was not moving. She placed her hand on his upper arm and shook it with no response. It now appeared to her that he was not breathing, she screamed for the nurses and they came running.

He rose up out of his body and was floating next to the ceiling before his wife noticed he wasn't moving. He was confused because he saw what looked like him in the bed below, but it can’t be him because he is him. He saw his wife sitting quietly reading her book next to what looked like him. Then a tunnel suddenly opened up above his right shoulder and he was sucked down the tunnel at lightning speed. He arrived at the other end and felt great with no pain. In his room the nurses had arrived and now started doing CPR. At the end of the tunnel, he was met by family members that had previously passed away and who were waiting for his arrival.
