“Tom Flannery was angry. He was easy to hear,” Marty Cromwell said, shaking his head. “It’s not that we haven’t heard the story before, but Tom was going on about old Angus Cory dying up here with a poker in his heart—and saying the same thing was going to happen to Mr. Dresden.” He shrugged and winced. “And I don’t reckon the old bones of Brendan Antrim really got together to rise from the dead to come and attack Mason Dresden.”

“Tom is a good guy,” Gina Murphy said. “I don’t want to believe he could have done this awful thing, but when I found Mr. Dresden . . .”
