The publishing company I work with is in Nashville, so I found myself there recently sitting with a group of publishers who looked confusingly at me when I told them I wanted to write a book about stories.

I tried my best to explain the concept, that all of us are living stories, and those stories teach other people to live stories. And what our stories are about matters, not just for us but for the world.

“You know,” I said, “a story is based on what people think is important, so when we live a story, we are telling the people around us what we think is important.” I said it just like that but in a more sophisticated way.

“Will the book have pictures in it?” one of the publishers asked, looking rather hopeful.

I sat back and tried to think of a way to illustrate my point.
