Dear Reader

When I was writing DELICIOUS, I really liked the heroine’s best friend, Joanna. She was addicted to chocolate, she drove like a madwoman, she had a new boyfriend every five minutes, and she never, ever shut up.

So when I decided to write Jo’s story I tried to think of some words to describe her. The word that kept on coming up was ‘rush’. She likes a sugar rush, she drives in a rush of speed and adrenaline, and she gets through guys in a rush, too. I knew that her perfect hero would be a man who loved thrills, somebody fast and exciting and spontaneous. And so Bruno was born … but as I got to know him I realised that life had knocked the thrills out of him. He needed a woman to remind him what it felt like to be alive.

After an afternoon wandering around the National Gallery in London, I had a plot to go with my two characters. I knew that these two people who didn’t believe in commitment were going to rush headlong into passion, into marriage, and into love.

I hope you enjoy the ride.

(By the way, although the artwork I’ve described really is in the National Gallery, Jo and Bruno’s closet is pure invention.)
