Shikarbadi Hotel

In Maharana Bhagwat Singh's days a trip to Shikarbadi, his. hunting lodge, was a time of roughing it. Although only 5 km from Udaipur, the area was covered with dense forest. Singh hunted the large numbers of panthers and lions on elephant back. A generation later his younger son Arvind Singh - although also a hunter - prefers to protect the animals rather than kill them. They attract visitors intent on appreciating wildlife instead of destroying it.

Although the forest and tigers have disappeared, there is still a feeling of being in the country in spite of Shikarbadi's proximity to Udaipur. Set in the fields and hills on 500 acres, it seems far from people and close to nature. With beamed ceilings, rough stone walls, jute matting on the floors, and wicker furniture, its 25 rooms carry out the rustic theme.
