Chapter Twenty-Five:

Mike got out of the shower and pulled his shorts on after he dried himself off. He ran the towel through his short hair and brushed his teeth. He didn’t shave because he was afraid it would take too much time and he wanted to get back to Jade. He walked out of the bathroom and saw her sitting on the bed in her nightshirt, her head in her hands.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” he walked over to her and she looked up at him, realizing she was half naked and forgetting for a moment he had been in the shower.

“Oh, sorry,” she scrambled to find something to cover herself with and she almost passed out.

“Jade, it’s okay,” he held her face in her hands. “You have nothing to be sorry for. It’s okay,” he smoothed her hair back and she let him hold her, his bare skin against her semi naked form. She cried against his chest.

“I’m scared. I don’t know why I keep getting dizzy,” she said as he tried not to react to the feeling of her so close to him.

He sat back and stroked her cheek with his thumb.

“You were poisoned with Arsenic. You almost died. I think a few days to get your bearings back is understandable. You have to give yourself a break.”

She crossed her arms over her chest and more tears spilled over.

“I don’t understand how you can look at me and not be disgusted. I don’t understand how any of this is okay.”

He smiled as he faced her.

“At the risk of sounding like a man, I’m going to say something and I need you to listen.”

She still held her arms over her chest as she listened.

“You are, without a doubt, the most beautiful woman I have laid eyes on. You are incredibly giving and sensitive and caring, and you have the most amazing heart. On a purely shallow note, you are incredibly sexy and there is no part of you that doesn’t turn me on,” he blushed. “Not that I mean to make you uncomfortable.”

“But my chest is so big. It doesn’t make you sick?”

He wasn’t sure how to answer that.

“Your chest is perfect. You are perfect. I don’t understand how you can’t see that.”

She wiped her eyes and looked at him.

“I wish I could see what you see. I wish I believed you.”

He gently moved her hair behind her shoulders and smiled at her.

“How about we work on that?”

She sighed. “I’m not sure how.”

“First thing you need to do is stop covering yourself up in front of me.”

“Mike. I’m not about to walk around naked,” she said and smiled.

“Well just so you know, I would be totally okay with that,” he grinned. “But I was thinking more along the lines of not feeling like you can’t be comfortable with me here. If you want to wear a tank top or a beautiful little nightshirt, then do that. You don’t have to be anyone other than who you are.”

“I hear you, but it’s going to take some time,” she said softly.
