Bonnie is in the relator’s office signing the final lease papers for the house. She looks over the financials again.

“Are they going to lower the price to compensate for the excessive roof damage. It’s going to cost more in heating and air conditioning.”

“They said they won’t lower the monthly rent...”

“Then I won’t rent the house.” Bonnie looks at the relator, puts down her pen and shrugs. She stands up but the relator motions for her to sit back down.

“Let me call them right now. I’ll be right back.” When the relator leaves, Bonnie looks at her phone and considers texting Carmen, but doesn’t. She’s going to wait and just give her a set of keys and drive her to the front door. Bonnie isn’t worried about the house, she knows the family wants to rent it and will take the hit. The owners had moved out a few weeks ago and we’re underwater. Bonnie knew they not only wanted to rent the house, they had to. Bonnie feels bad about their situation but isn’t going to get screwed in the deal, either. When the relator comes back into the room with a smile on her face, Bonnie is not surprised.

“They’ll drop the rent to $3,500 a month. It’s the best I can do.”

“Fine. That’s good enough. Thank you. So, let’s sign the paperwork and get me those keys!” The relator pushes two sets of keys across the desk. Bonnie is surprised at that. She didn’t think she’d get in today, but apparently, the relator had them for a while and is happy to get rid of them. Bonnie wants to call Carmen but she doesn’t. No, this is going to be a surprise. She decides to bring Carmen to the house tonight. She extends her hand to the relator and picks up the keys. “So we’re done here?”

“It’s all yours. Enjoy and I’ll check in with you next week.”

“Thanks!” Bonnie gets up and walks out of the relator’s office. She’s got a big grin on her face.
