Although I haven't mentioned the name of the piece of music that accompanies the dance in this story I have based all my research on work published by John Playford and his successors from 1696 onwards as part of his Dancing Master manual. 'Mr Beveridge's Maggot' is the dance you will see in most TV and film adaptions of Pride and Prejudice and Emma. However, neither it nor the music would have been used in Jane Austen's day. During my research I also found many different interpretations of the dance. For the purpose of this story I have combined them slightly and kept it as close to the original as I could.
