Chapter Eight

~Megan's POV~

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Sam and Kiana... Some type of half zombie... things? It was crazy. All the things I've encountered, they were completely dead. Completely, one hundred percent undead. But these two... Claiming, and even giving us proof that they were what they said they were... "Not possible. You two are monsters. Just like those flesh eating freaks."

Sam flinched at my words for the second time but she quickly composed herself and walked over to Kiana. "Do what you want. We're only trying to save ourselves from this damn curse. We haven't hurt anyone and we never plan to." She looked at me and shrugged. "I've fought for so long to come back this far, and you won't stop me from fighting further. You can't stop me without getting in the way and getting hurt as a result."

I raised an eyebrow and crossed my arms over my chest. "You'd hurt me huh? It'll come down to that?" I scoffed. "Then you'll be just like them. A killer."

Alex put a hand on my shoulder. "Calm down. Would you really try to stop them from getting a cure for what they are? That would be pointless and idiotic." He looked at Sam. "But what you did, hiding it from us... What did you think we would do? Kill you because of something you couldn't help becoming?"

I shook Alex's hand off my shoulder and bit my bottom lip. "Something they couldn't help? They could have told us!"

"Stop!" Sam glared at me. "So what if we didn't tell you? I knew how you would react. Because it's the same way I reacted when I saw that it happened to my sister! And then to me. I wanted to kill myself because of it. But I couldn't. Because I had Kiana to think about and I couldn't leave her here alone to deal with it even if I don't even fully know what it is." She took Kiana's hand and shook her head. "Don't try to come after us because you'll only end up getting hurt. Whether from me or because of your stupidity, I don't know. But if you come with us just to hurt us, then don't. If you come with us because you don't care, then great."

I clenched my hands into fists and glared at her back. "Shouldn't you be weak? If you're somewhere in between us and them? Shouldn't you been so weak that you can't defend yourself?"

"I don't know. But I guess not because here I am. Alive and healthy and stronger than ever." She started walking. "I was only trying to protect you in the end of my decision to keep you in the dark. Forgive me if that was the wrong thing to do."

Derek and Alex both looked at me.

"Go if you want. I'm staying for a while." I shook my head, grabbed my bag and headed in the opposite direction.

~Alex POV~

"Now what?" I looked in the direction of Sam's retreating figure and then at Megan's.
