CHAPTER 8

Breon stepped into the second bedroom and closed the door. He called Ray, seeing that Ray was up and waiting to talk to him since getting his text.

“What the fuck you mean he ran up in Wayne’s place?” Ray asked, after hearing the entire story from Breon. “That nigga Dante?”

“Yeah, nigga,” Breon said. “That’s what I said, ain’t it? Anyway, I know you know where I can get that heat and shit. That nigga is prolly out here try’na kill me and shit.”

“I remember the problems you had with that nigga,” Ray said. “That’s why I feel like I used to be not cool with his ass and shit because the nigga was just so damn petty and shit. I used to be like damn, nigga. When the fuck is you gon’ grow up?”

“So, did you hit up anybody you know that might be able to help me out?” Breon asked.

“Yeah, but you know I don’t talk about this kinda shit on the phone,” Ray said. “Plus, I got a little company over here. But when can you come through and shit? Can you come tonight? Right now? I know one of the niggas said that we could come through, over to his place on the west side, and chop it up with him for a minute and talk about it.”

“Shit, yeah,” Breon responded, not caring about the time. “I can come right now.”

The two men agreed on Breon coming right then. Breon checked in the bedroom to make sure that Trina was still sleeping. She was completely knocked out. Seeing her, lying in the bed so innocently, made him want to do everything in his power to keep her out of this. He wasn’t sure what kind of heat he was going to get, but he knew he was going to use a good chunk of the money he’d been sitting on all of these years to get it. He only wanted the best if he was going to have to dip back into that life to get Dante off of his back. Breon figured Dante was just the kind of nigga to shoot up a wedding.

Nikki then popped into his mind. In a way, he was happy to have met her when he did. Not only was she something different than what he already had at home, but she didn’t come across as the kind of chick who was looking for anything serious. She was showing that she understood certain elements of secrecy by letting him put the guns over at her place, even if only for a couple of days. Breon was confident in his bedroom skills, as he quickly learned that he had power over women. Once he’d put it down in the bedroom, their entire demeanor and attitude changed, as well as how deep their love was for him.

Breon got dressed and headed out the door, closing it as gently as possible behind him. On his way over to Ray’s place, he still kept an eye out at the stoplights.
