WRATH

“Okay, I think the three of you’ve got today’s lesson down,” the trainer said to our group. I knew she was talking to me, Loki, and Thorn. Somehow, the puppies had learned much faster than us. I’d seen the woman trying her hardest not to laugh at us as we screwed up our commands and managed to forget everything she’d just taught us the second we tried to do it on our own. “You’ll need to practice the commands you’ve learned today at least three times a day until our lesson next weekend. Make sure you keep the toys picked up like I suggested, okay?”

“Yes, ma’am,” Loki said, ashamed at the ass chewing she’d given him about spoiling the dogs. I hadn’t realized it, but Loki had been on a buying spree when it came to the puppies. They had more toys stashed in his apartment than we’d shared through our entire childhood. He’d mentioned needing to get them a bigger toy box and that prompted the trainer to take a look in each of our apartments to see what might need to be changed to help with training. “I’ll promise to do my best to follow your rules.”

“Suggestions,” the woman corrected him with a smile.

“Those too,” Loki said with a chuckle.

“I have to go to my next appointment, so I’ll leave you to practice for a while. If you have any questions before I see you again, just text me.”

We thanked her and worked with the dogs for a while before all of us ended up at my apartment for a late lunch. Thorn was working in the kitchen, and Loki and I were sprawled out on the couches with the exhausted dogs when Sin came through the front door.

“Hey, little one,” Loki said as he lifted his head to look at her. “What’s wrong?”

“I heard a conversation that wasn’t meant for me, and now I’m not sure what to do with that information,” Sin admitted as she flopped down onto the recliner. “It’s not any of our business, really, but I feel like these people might need help and not know that they can ask us for it.”

“These people? Is it someone you work with or a patient?”

Sin stared at me and worried her bottom lip with her teeth for a second before she said, “I think we’re going to need Creed involved too.”

Loki sat up and stared at Sin before he leaned over and pulled his phone out of his pocket. He sent a text to Creed and looked over at me with his eyebrows raised.

“Who’s in trouble, lillesøster?” I asked, going back to our Norwegian lessons from when we were kids.

“Maybe Val and her whole family.”
