From the time between his wedding to Stephanie and the day the World Title left Raw, Triple H had 11 feuds. Out of those 11, only two opponents actually ended up looking better because of their program with him. Two out of 11? One, Shelton Benjamin, got his leg up just following Trippie’s trade from Smackdown for three men. The other, Batista, seemed to persevere no matter how poorly the writing team presented him.

A year after feuding with Hunter, Booker T needed two men to equal one of him in a trade. Also within a year, Chris Benoit went from main eventing Mania with Hunt to wrestling an undercard WM ladder match with five other people.

Scott Steiner, Kevin Nash and Bill Goldberg were all gone shortly after their failed feuds with him. Their stints against the Champion did nothing to make fans interested in them. That says a lot. While they may have lacked some sort of charisma or determination or whatever WWE spins it to be, they still feuded with the top name on the show and ended up being worth nothing storyline-wise after it was over.

Speaking of which, Kane’s feud with Hunter left him in a tailspin that ended up plaguing him for years. His character, once a monster and a monster only, now had strange sexual undertones. After the Katie Vick debacle, a storyline so bad that WWE purposely avoids mentioning it, no one knew what to make of The Big Red Machine. It was all thanks to his big program with Mr. H.

Eugene was doing fine until The Game ate him in a cage.

Then there was Randy Orton. The biggest sabotage of all. He was berated, burned, botched and buried. After a horrendous storyline that did more damage to him than any scandal could have ever done, Orton’s stock sunk to new levels. Even after the feud was over and Randy was trying to regain what was left of his marketability, Hunt felt the need to drive one last nail in the coffin by reminding fans of Randall’s descent. No one got screwed like Randy Orton. Not Goldberg. Not Bret Hart. Not Debbie in Dallas. Orton trumps them all.

So what do you call it? Stupidity? Is Hunter stupid? Is he just so piss poor at picking opponents and working with them that none of his feuds seem to benefit anyone but himself? How is it that a company’s Champion, the flag bearer of the roster, can’t find ways to make others look good? Isn’t that one of the main jobs of a Champion? Feud with a foe and watch them rise in popularity by association? That’s sort of how this business works.

Funny thing about Triple H, though. He’s able to help out wrestlers who have nothing to do with him. I’ve spoken to many performers who’ve never feuded with Trips or appeared on the same show with him and they all had positive things to say. Some even spoke of ideas that he gave them to
